Rathnam Movie Review: Film Has Comedic Timing
Rathnam Movie Review – A henchman for an MLA (Samuthirakani), Rathnam (Vishal), meets Mallika (Vishal), a young woman preparing for the NEET test. When some thugs decide to kill her, he rushes to her rescue one day.
Rathnam feels obligated to look out for Mallika because she looks so much like his late mother, Ranganayaki.
A prominent man named Lingam has built a college on the Tamil Nadu property that Mallika and her family own, causing them problems. For the rest of the film, Rathnam is hell-bent on protecting Mallika and finding out who Lingam really is and what his mother went through.
Vishal plays the part of a well-intentioned yet disruptive individual, a role he has performed before. Both the part and his performance are clichéd.
Both her roles as Vishal’s mother and Mallika, played by Priya Bhavani Shankar, were strong.
The performance of Murali Sharma as the main villain is faultless. Okay, Samuthirakani. Both Yogi Babu’s track and his comedic timing are terrible and annoying.
Technically speaking, action stunt performers get more labour from the film than actors or technologists do. At some point, it starts to feel like most chase and battle scenes are the same.
Hearing that Devi Sri Prasad is in charge of the film’s score comes as quite a shock. I am not a fan of either the songs or the background score.
The cinematography of M. Sukumar’s action film is really standard.
Analysis
The mass films directed by Tamil filmmaker Hari are unwatchable for rational audiences, with the exception of the “Singham” and “Yamudu” series. There has been zero innovation in Hari’s pattern of action pictures. Vishal has an extensive filmography, and “Rathnam” is only the latest one.
While pursuing the bad guys, our hero meets a heroine and learns that she’s in danger; he must protect her. A lot of Hari’s films are structured like this. Until the very end of the story, the hero in most of his films is reluctant to acknowledge the love that the heroine feels for him. “Rathnam” means the same thing.
The protagonist in “Rathnam” rejects the heroine’s proposal in an effort to distance herself from memories of his late mother. But he goes after her and acts just like any other kid who is head over heels for a girl. Why? His response goes as follows: “Hey, I’m having an issue with my computer. Oh, my goodness, what a delightful surprise!”She cried.”
After we meet Vishal, a gangster who is prepared to die for the greater good, we get to see Yogi Babu perform some typical comedic numbers. Next, we meet our heroine, who is in danger from a gang of troublemakers. Once he rescues her from a gang, the film devolves into a nonstop chase and combat sequence.
The game’s second half switches gears to centre on the hero’s personal problems as well as the heroine’s, as it delves into the connection between Murali Sharma and Vishal’s mother. The dull scenes and clichéd narration, however, persist indefinitely.
The search for an exit starts long before the film ends. Everything from the comedic track to the so-called love track between the protagonist and heroine to the musical numbers falls flat.
In sum, “Rathnam” is just another mass-masala action flick full of tired plot points, clichéd characters, and dull scenes.
