Ambajipeta Marriage Band Review: The film Drags On and On

Feature films such as “Color Photo” have catapulted Suhas to stardom. The GA2 Pictures brand helped propel Ambajipeta Marriage Band, in which he stars for the third time, to great heights of publicity.

The twins Malli (Suhas) and Padma (Saranya) are a marriage band member and an Ambajipeta teacher, respectively. The village king Venkat, who keeps his power in the community by charging interest on loans to the peasants, gets furious when he finds out that his sister Lakshmi, played by Shivani Nagaram, is seeing Malli.

Venkat brings Padma to the school building and humiliates her by stripping her of her saree and makes her stand nude as a punishment.

Vengeance is what Malli seeks, while legal action is what Padma chooses. Is vengeance ever going to come for them?

Highlights of performances:

Suhas has done a good job acting out his fury. His performance in the episodes leading up to the break and in the ones just before the end is outstanding.

The film’s standout actor, nevertheless, is Saranya Pradeep. She is the backbone with her performance. A reflection of her character’s pride, she exudes an air of absolute confidence and perfection. Towards the end of the film, she becomes the protagonist and the storyline revolves around her.

As the village lord, Nithin Prasanna has also given a great performance.

The newcomer Shivani Nagaram does a good job in her role. Because he is Suhas’s friend, Jagadish Pratap has a major part to play.

The song “Gumma” is a standout. In many contexts, dialogues are fruitful. Very well-done editing. Pretty great artwork. Accompanying the topic is the cinematography.

Analysis:

The year 2007 is the setting for “Ambajipeta Marriage Band” in a village in Andhra Pradesh. I am well familiar with the underlying principle. The problems of social stratification and prejudice based on caste in rural areas have been the subject of numerous films. The hero’s crush on the villain’s sister or the villain’s humiliation of the hero’s family are common story points in many films.

“Ambajipeta Marriage Band” has a rather standard plot point. But it’s unique in its own way. Despite its obvious familiarity, the picture manages to captivate for the most part.

You won’t find much fun in the early parts of the sequences. Especially the love track isn’t really original. Nearing the intermission, though, the film picks up steam.

A poignant note ends the film’s first half. The director deftly manages the village lord’s humiliation of the local instructor, establishing the pervasive caste inequality in the hamlet.

There is a lot of intrigue during the whole thirty minutes leading up to the interval.

However, the film’s tempo starts to decelerate immediately following the intermission. Overly drawn out is the moment in which Saranya protests with banners stating “Adharam Leni Akrama Sambandham Avamana Padda Atambhimanam.” This is where the film starts to drag on.

On the bright side, “Ambajipeta Marriage Band” manages to stay up. On top of that, it stays in its normal state of wrath. In the latter act, it adds some surprises and maintains the tension.

Unlike other movies, the climax is believable as well.

The story and its central issue of caste prejudice are both old hat, as mentioned earlier. The film, however, stays away from the usual “positive ending” for the hero’s love tale. It also stays away from the usual methods of turning Suhas into a hero, which are deeds of revenge. Consequently, “Ambajipeta Marriage Band” manages to captivate us despite its predictable plot.

Also missing from the film are the usual commercial features. Neither the romantic moments nor the songs are plentiful. It follows the same format as Malayalam films in narrating the plot. Some people may not enjoy it, but those who like tightly plotted stories will probably like it.

As a whole, “Ambajipeta Marriage Band” is a standard story that showcases Suhas and Saranya Pradeep’s acting chops. One negative aspect is the somewhat slow narrative in the second part.
