Tantra Movie Review: No Thrills, Routine Horror
Tantra, a horror thriller starring Ananya Nagalla, which premiered in theatres today, is one of Nagalla’s more well-known flicks.
Childhood buddy Teja (Dhanush Raghumudri) showers Rekha (Ananya Nagalla) with the unconditional love and care she needs after her mother’s untimely death when she was a little kid. A love bond develops between them.
It seems that someone has been engaging in ‘kshudra pooja’ with the aim to hurt Teja, since she has noticed the presence of spirits.
As an added bonus, it’s clear that Rekha is having a tough time adjusting to Vigathi’s (Temper Vamshi) return to their community after a long absence.
But every full moon, a ghost comes to Rekha in an effort to quench her need for blood. How do the events involving Rajeswari (Saloni) fit into the bigger picture, and what is the relationship between Vigathi and Rekha?
Ananya Nagalla gives a compelling performance as an innocent lady haunted by otherworldly forces. In the last scenes, she really shines. The film’s surprising reveal is Saloni. In the part, she shows her strength.
The principal actor, Dhanush Raghumudri, gives a decent performance. Lakshman Meesala and Vamshi Temper were excellent in their respective parts.

You can get by with the camera job. Fitting the topic, the background score is perfect.
“Tantra” opens with a story from the Ramayana that says Ravana’s son Indrajit had extraordinary powers in magical conjuring. Lakshmana, however, was the one who foiled his schemes. So, the new director, Srinivas Gopisetti, has tried to immerse viewers in his horror tale.
On top of that, he has divided the film into six separate parts, and he has given each section a name. The film would have benefited from these tactics if the tale had been more interesting in the middle.
“Tantra” delves deeper into occult activities than your average horror story. However, terrifying scenes and exciting moments are essential components of a horror play. They are totally absent from this one.
Ghosts skulk around Ananya Nagalla’s character and she screams for her own blood in the middle of the night are very unsettling. Or pique curiosity. We were bored by most of these scenes and events.
Also, there’s this long flashback story that doesn’t do anything. A lack of creative storytelling saves “Tantra” from its potentially intriguing climax. The new director has good ideas, but he doesn’t seem to have the storytelling chops to make them a reality.
Put simply, the slow pace of the plot in the horror drama “Tantra” makes the already disappointing experience much worse.
